The subject says it all . . . I need to disable the icon-switching
behavior of Option>Tab in OS 9. Any ideas on how it's done?

Thanks

While I appreciate your efforts, you probably noticed that none of the
referenced pages actually mentions the Option > Tab issue.

Perhaps you have another idea?

Thanks

Could you clarify what the issue is? I thought you meant the command+tab
app switching feature in OS 9 (option+Tab doesn't do anything for me),
and figured the first page was what you would need:

Option+Tab in OS 9.0.4 and 9.1 cycles through highlighting of the
desktop icons. This behavior interferes with same key combination in
an application that we use (Fax Senior). I need to be able to disable
the Option + Tab system combination.

Thanks

This may be something you can do by hacking the Finder with ResEdit, but
I'm not sure what resource you would need to modify. Examples of other
hacks using ResEdit to change Finder keyboard shortcuts:

Thanks for your help. I will try a couple of hacks, and post what worked.

I don't know if someone mentioned it already, but it may be a hint - the
icon cycling is triggered by the Tab key on its own, the Option key actually
is ignored by the Finder in this case.

So you must disable the Tab key in the Finder, not Option-Tab.

To disable command + tab go the help menu and lanch Mac Help (command
?).

In the search box type in "application Switcher".

Once the results are shown click on "Switching between open programs".

Once the results are shown scroll down until you find "help me modify
the keyboard shortcuts" and click on it.

A dialog window will pop up asking you if you would like to use a
keyboard shortcut to switch between applications.

Click on "no" and command tab will no longer work.

Hope this helps.
