How to tell if BSD subsystem is installed in Mac OS X?

Hi,

Dumb question: How can I determine if the BSD subsystem is installed in
a couple of Macs running Mac OS X 10.2.4 and 10.3.4?

And if the BSD subsystem is not installed, can it be added on via the
install disks? or does one have to re-install from scratch?

TIA

AFAIK, not installing it isn't an option. Where did you see that it
was?

It's an option with custom install.

You can check whether it's installed by looking in the top-level
"Library" folder, under "Receipts". There should be a file there called
BSD.pkg. If not, there's no BSD subsystem install.
